YOUTH NEWS

Adventure Stewards

2024 is bringing you THREE sessions of Adventure Stewards. This exciting program introduces students, ages 11-14, to local, world-class outdoor adventure activities, such as rock climbing and white water rafting, while giving back through hands-on stewardship.

Youth In Nature

In February, Youth In Nature (YIN) students gathered at Buttermilk Mountain to learn about ski industry careers with Aspen Ski Co and take a lesson on the mountain. Students split into ski and snowboard groups and spent the morning honing their skills with their instructors. In the afternoon, the group heard from employees across Ski Co operations, from ski patrol to on-mountain restaurants, and discussed complex questions like housing availability and equity and access in winter sports.

If you know a student who would benefit from this program, our application is now open through April 15! Youth In Nature is a cost-free outdoor internship for high school students in the Aspen to Parachute region. YIN provides transportation, outdoor gear, and a $1,500 educational award for each student.

YIN Spotlight

Elsa Tullar, a current Youth In Nature participant and Editor-in-Chief for The Skier Scribbler, wrote a YIN highlight in the Aspen High School Newspaper.  She writes, "The Roaring Fork Valley is a small place to begin with, however creating smaller communities that can serve as a reliable network of people and give back to the environment that has fostered so much growth is imperative, especially for high schoolers."
