IMPORTANT UPDATES

Hanging Lake Cancellation

Due to the complexity of the Hanging Lake Trail rebuild this summer, the U.S. Forest Service has determined that we are unable to offer a project there this season. RFOV is thrilled to be involved in this multi-year effort to rebuild the permanent trail and is hopeful we can offer a volunteer project in 2025.

Coffman Ranch Reschedule

The Coffman Ranch community project, originally scheduled for Sunday, October 6, has been moved to Saturday, September 28. The project will still run from 9-3 and the Little Explorers program will continue as planned.

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Stacy Treganza

Stacy is RFOV's May 2024 Volunteer of the Month. He has already attended 4 projects this season. In addition to his support of our shared public lands, Stacy enjoys hiking, fishing, hunting, and working in his yard.

Stacy told us, "I've met some great people I most likely wouldn't have met if it wasn't for RFOV. It's very rewarding to give back and help protect the places that I and others recreate. A lot of the places that I've volunteered at are places that I may have never known existed if it wasn't for RFOV."

UPCOMING EVENTS

BOHR FLATS OVERNIGHT
SATURDAY, JUNE 22 - SUNDAY, JUNE 23

Join us for the first time ever at Bohr Flats! RFOV is partnering with the Eagle River Coalition for a weekend overnight to create Zeedyk Rock Structures. These low-profile, hand-built structures provide erosion control and wetland restoration. They were pioneered by author and scientist, Bill Zeedyk, and will be taught to volunteers by his long-time apprentice, Shawn Conner.

MARBLE STEWARDSHIP EXTRAVAGANZA
FRIDAY, JUNE 28 - SUNDAY, JUNE 30

This is year four of the Marble Stewardship Extravaganza campout! Join us for one or both days of family-friendly stewardship!

Camping in town is available on Friday and Saturday nights with pre-registration.

Breakfast provided by RFOV staff and dinner will be provided by Slow Groovin BBQ.

GROUP PROJECTS & ADOPT-A-TRAIL

May 10 - White Horse Yoga

White Horse Yoga is a new RFOV partner this year! They have joined our Adopt-a-Trail program by adopting the Three Gulch Trail at Red Hill. They worked hard to continue building a mono-wall where their group set in rocks on the side of the trail to stabilize the outer edge, protecting it from erosion.

May 22 - St. Regis Hotel

Employees of the St. Regis Hotel helped maintain the cottonwood groves on the side of the ABC Bike Path in Aspen. The group worked hard, trimming branches and thinning out smaller, less healthy trees from this area, improving the beauty and health of the small grove. We appreciate St. Regis Hotel employees for taking the time out of their workday to be stewards of our public lands!

YOUNG STEWARDS

Adventure Stewards

There are still a few openings in Sessions 2 and 3 of Adventure Stewards. This exciting program introduces students, ages 11-14, to local, world-class outdoor adventure activities, such as rock climbing and white water rafting, while giving back through hands-on stewardship. We encourage you to sign your student up on a waitlist if the session is full in the event of a cancellation.

Session 2: White Water Rafting (July 8-12)
Session 3: Rock Climbing (July 29 - August 2)

Youth In Nature

GRADUATION TIME! In May, the YIN cohort 2023/24 gathered for a night of camping in Rifle Mountain State Park. The group completed a stewardship project, building check dams and Zuni bowls, and enjoyed a day of climbing. We celebrated the students' completion of the program and reflected on our year spent together.

We are now gearing up for the next cohort of students to begin on June 15th at Coffman Ranch!
