Adventure Stewards
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers is excited to announce the next season of our Adventure Stewards program for middle school students! This exciting program introduces students 11-14 to local, world-class outdoor adventure activities while also giving back to these special places through hands-on stewardship projects. Students will walk away with the skills they need to become a life-long outdoor adventurer and steward.
Each session features two days of a new adventure sport, thanks to our partners at Defiance Rafting and Glenwood Climbing Guides. Before we learn to run snowmelt-fed rivers or go rock climbing on local limestone, students will come together as a team and dig into a stewardship project in the same locations where we bike and climb. Projects range from improving hiking and biking trails to restoring unique habitats. Throughout the week, students will learn about local ecology, natural history and the challenges facing these beautiful places.
As an Adventure Steward, students will learn, explore and expand their comfort zone - developing leadership and teamwork skills, while making connections with their fellow crew. From steering raft through rapids to restoring access to well-loved recreation areas, students will complete this course with new skills, knowledge and memories.
