YOUNG STEWARDS

Youth In Nature

On October 19th, Youth In Nature students spent time with Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) staff at the newly renovated Catto Center at Toklat. Andrea Aust, Education Director, and Kate Huun, Field Coordinator, led a variety of activities throughout the day. The group enjoyed tea and muffins while listening to the history of the property from Trevor Washko.

While hiking through the National Forest students learned how to use a dichotomous key to identify trees, and how to take a tree core to learn more about the tree’s life and forest health. After lunch, students completed a stewardship project - working hard to install a new section of fence on ACES Riverdance property.

Next month, the cohort is headed to BLM trails and Colorado National Monument for a day of stewardship and canyoneering with Glenwood Climbing Guides!

The 2024/25 Youth In Nature cohort consists of 11 students from 6 different area high schools between Parachute and Aspen. Want to know more about the students participating in this year's program?

2025 SEASON PLANNING

Member Input on 2025 Season

Attention all RFOV members! We are interested in hearing from you as we plan our 2025 season.

Through our extensive project selection process, we seek to work on the most important projects for our community each year. Project proposals are sent in by local land management agencies and partners and then reviewed by our volunteer project selection committee. This group of staff, board members, and active volunteers review proposals to select a diverse season project slate based on location, difficulty, type of work, and dates. Lastly, we ask our dedicated members to provide their input on the top projects through a survey before we finalize the next season's list of projects.

Interested in being a part of the project selection process?
