May 2022

OH THE PLACES WE GO TOGETHER! To prepare for the start of Project Season 2022, RFOV staff went on retreat to Dominguez Canyon (pictured above). The time we spent backpacking was an opportunity to reaffirm our collective commitment to the outdoors and to you, our community!

One of the most important aspects of Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers is bringing people together in places that are – or can become – meaningful to them.

Our staff is absolutely jazzed to explore new places and return to familiar sites this month. Together, our trails, restoration, and fire mitigation efforts make the Roaring Fork region a place worth living in. Keep reading to learn about youth, volunteer, and educational opportunities this May. We hope to see you outdoors soon!

GLENWOOD CANYON UPDATE

HANGING LAKE TRAIL

The National Forest Foundation and US Forest Service have secured a roughly $2 million grant through Great Outdoors Colorado to design and implement temporary and permanent trail rebuilding solutions. RFOV staff will participate in rebuilding as needed this year and in years to come. The trail is hoped to reopen for reservations by Summer, 2022.

RFOV 2022 ACTIVITIES

We will be concentrating staff efforts on rebuilding the Grizzly Creek Trail and community education. At this time, no work is planned for the Jess Weaver Trail or for rest areas or the canyon bike path. No community volunteer projects will be offered this season; groups may schedule projects with significant advance notice.
