November 2022

WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SEASON!

Many, MANY thanks to all the hard working
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers for your day in, day out commitment to sustainable recreation, healthy landscapes, fire mitigation, and youth stewardship education.

This season, 1,304 volunteers worked on 67 project sites for a combined total of 10,084 hours including staff time dedicated to stewardship. That’s the equivalent of one person working full time for almost 5 years. And we did that together in just 6 months!  The RFOV 2022 Impact Report with all metrics and restoration outcomes will be available soon on the RFOV website.

RFOV 2022 AWARD-WINNING VOLUNTEERS

HELEN CARLSEN, inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Helen's smile and work ethic exudes the spirit of RFOV. The value of your 25 years of service is endlessly appreciated.

JAMIN HEADY-SMITH, inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award winner. From serving on the Board for 9 years to training Crew Leaders, Jamin helped make RFOV what it is today.

BOB SORRELL, Most Active Volunteer. Bob's balanced leadership during this divisive time in our society has been instrumental at RFOV community projects.

JOHN WESTROPP, Rookie of the Year. John's desire to join a nature-based volunteer group was a gift to RFOV and public lands across and beyond the Roaring Fork Valley.

CARLOS HERRERA, Most Enthusiastic Volunteer. Our shared public lands are very lucky that Carlos moved to Carbondale to follow his dream to celebrate nature.

EMILY NOBLE, Most Enthusiastic Volunteer. Emily's brilliant smile and joyous laugh are infectious and helped enhance the work and fun at every project she joined.

TED BEHAR, Volunteer of the Year. We recognize Ted Behar for his overall contribution to the RFOV mission and his embrace of our values during this project season. Ted’s devotion to stewardship inspires others - we’re grateful for his service.

THE RFOV 2022 APPRECIATION PARTY LAUNCHED THREE NEW TRADITIONS!

Hosting the event this year at TACAW in Basalt, RFOV presented two inaugural Lifetime Achievement Awards - to Helen Carlsen and Jamin Heady-Smith. Our volunteer awardees received hand-painted golden Pulaskis with engraved name plates. And, our enthusiastic Board Directors performed various jobs at the party such as check-in and serving dinner, enabling the devoted RFOV staff to celebrate along with volunteers, partners and guests. With music performed by the Elk Range Bluegrass band, a good time was had by all!
