Programs for Adults & Families

Central to RFOV’s mission is creating a community of stewards - providing ways for our participations to build connections with other people, the land and the regional community. 

Whether you are a seasoned volunteer or you are joining us for the first time, these programs provide great opportunities to learn new skills and make new connections. 

At each Community Project you will hear from professionals on RFOV staff and from our Land Management partners, providing a window into their role and the importance of the project at hand!

Intro to Trail Building and Maintenance

Offered twice annually     Click for more information This class is an opportunity to join RFOV – without any pressure of prior experience or ability! These programs are great way to meet people who are interested in learning more about the

Each program will be offered at the same site as one of our popular Community Projects - return to the trail to show off your new skills and share your new knowledge with fellow volunteers.

Also offered in 2023 will be Intro to Rock Skills and Intro to Restoration Skills. Stay tuned for more information in the spring.

Crew Leader Training

Offered twice annually     Click for more information Offered annually, this weekend-long experiential learning opportunity qualifies community members to lead crews of 6-9 volunteers on basic trail-building, trail-maintenance, and landscape restoration. From trail design to risk management, this course will provide you with the tools and knowledge to create meaningful volunteer expereinces for others in your commnunity.

Family Projects

As requested for ages 8+     Click for more information Created specifically to provide families with the perfect balance of accessibility, challenge and tasks appropriate for volunteers of all ages. Just like our Service Learning Projects, these custom days incorporate plenty of breaks for lessons, outdoor activities, nature journaling and more.

Recommended group size is 6-9 persons per RFOF staff member - we encourage you to sign up with friends, extended family, etc. Offered as requested.

Another great option is to attend Community Projects which are marked family-friendly. These projects will have components suitable for volunteers of all ages!

Little Explorers

Ages 4 - 8     Click for more information If you have been interested in joining RFOV for a community project but struggle to find childcare during that time - look no further than Little Explorers.

Offered in conjunction with several community projects during our 2023 season, this program is for our youngest students. While parents/guardians take part in the Community Project, RFOV Educators will lead students in structured nature play, activities and discovery tied to the theme of the day’s project.

Projects with childcare available in 2023 will be anounced in the spring.
