We have some of the annual popular projects like Hanging Lake and Four Pass Loop on the schedule, as well as some commemorative projects at Red Hill, Maroon Bells, and Rifle Falls honoring work volunteers did in some of RFOV's first years. Check out our list of 2025 season projects and trainings here.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Crew Leader Training

Saturday, April 12 | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm | Red Hill, Carbondale

RFOV relies on volunteer crew leaders to make a busy project season successful. Have you ever wanted to help lead other volunteers in trail, restoration, and fire mitigation projects? RFOV is pioneering a new hybrid crew leader training with online instructional modules and a single day of in-person training!

Project Ambassador Training

Tuesday, April 15 | 6:00 - 7:30 pm | Third Street Center, Carbondale

RFOV's community projects depend on Project Ambassadors to sign in and orient volunteers, talk to the community about the project and other RFOV work, and support general project logistics. Come learn about the PA program and join us in this accessible, low impact volunteer opportunity.

May Projects

Our first community project of the season will be happening on Saturday, May 3 at Silt River Preserve. We will be returning for our 5th year planting native trees and plants, battling invasive plants, and maintaining trails throughout the preserve. This project will also host our first Little Explorers of the year — free onsite outdoor education activities for kids 4-8 while parents volunteer. Learn more about Little Explorers below.

May is one of our busiest months of the year! Other projects and trainings happening next month include Sunset Park in Basalt, our 30th anniversary commemorative projects at Red Hill and Maroon Creek Wetlands, the first of two projects at Linwood Cemetery in Glenwood Springs, and a fun training on pollinator garden installations. For more information about these projects and to register, please visit www.rfov.org/calendar.

With the start of our 30th anniversary season right around the corner, we want to give a huge shout out to all of this year's sponsors. GROUPS + BUSINESSES

Work on Silt River Preserve

It's fun to do something different, get outside, and make a contribution! Did you know that you can schedule a private volunteer trail day for your business or organization? The collective action of your friends, coworkers, or colleagues will create a legacy for our public lands. Group Events can involve everyone in the office, and will be tailored to your group’s desired outcomes.

RFOV is currently looking for businesses near Silt to adopt or work on Silt River Preserve with their group. If this is something that interests you, please email info@rfov.org.

YOUNG STEWARDS

Little Explorers

Little Explorers is offered at select community projects throughout the season and consists of free, on-site, outdoor education activities for children 4-8 years old while parents and guardians volunteer. It is offered for the first half of the project day, 9am-12:30 pm, and activities will include structured nature play and an introduction into the stewardship work taking place that day.

This season, Little Explorers will be offered at 3 different projects this season:
