RFOV is excited to announce our new Adventure Stewards program for middle school students! This two-week program introduces students to some of the world class outdoor adventure opportunities in Garfield County while also teaching them to give back to these special places through hands-on environmental stewardship projects. Students will walk away with the skills they need to become a life-long outdoor adventurer and steward!
Program Description
Each week features two days of a new adventure sport, thanks to our partners at Defiance Rafting and Glenwood Climbing Guides. In between days of rafting down the Colorado River or rock climbing on local limestone, students will dig into a stewardship project in the same locations where we raft and climb.
Projects include wildfire restoration, improving popular trails and maintaining river access through unique riparian areas. Throughout both the Adventure and Stewardship days, students will learn about local ecology, natural history and the challenges facing these beautiful places.
Every week students will learn, explore and expand their comfort zone - developing leadership and teamwork skills, while making connections with their fellow Adventure Stewards. From steering a raft through rapids to restoring landscapes affected by wildfire, students will complete this course with new skills, knowledge and memories.
Registration will close by Monday May 17th, 2021.
Program Information
Open to students entering 7th or 8th grade
June 14-25 Monday-Friday, 9 am - 3 pm (may vary on Adventure days)
RFOV follows the most up-to-date state and county health guidelines.
Program Location
Week 1 (June 14-18): Glenwood Canyon area, east of Glenwood Springs, CO
Week 2 (June 21-25): Rifle Mountain Park, north of Rifle, CO
Program Tuition
$600 Partial and full financial aid available
