Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers

Silt River Preserve Trail Project – Saturday, May 5, 2018

Date:  Saturday, May 5, 2018

Time:  Saturday – 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (includes dinner + drinks)

Location:  Silt, Colorado (Silt River Preserve on County Rd 346)

What to expect

We will be building the first public access trail on a recently acquired property located along the Colorado River. Volunteer work will include building new trail and clearing trail corridor.

Registration

Please check in at the RFOV tent upon arrival. From there, we will split into crews and set off to the work site from the registration area.

Meals

The Town of Silt is generously providing both lunch and dinner. RFOV will provide lite breakfast offerings. Please bring your own snacks and full water bottles to start.

4:15 pm     Dinner (provided)

What to wear

The best advice is to layer your clothing to be ready for cool mornings and evenings and probable hot weather during the day. Be prepared with a hat, sunscreen, and rain gear. Long pants are recommended and sturdy, closed toe shoes are required.

 What to bring

  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.
  • Rain gear
  • Insect repellent
  • Water (at least 1/2 gallon)
  • Personal snacks

Directions 

From east of Silt (Glenwood Springs/New Castle)

Head west-bound on I-70. Take Exit 97 to Silt. Turn left (away from downtown) and head south to River Frontage Road. Turn left onto River Frontage Road, go past the Holiday Inn Express, and turn right on County Rd 311/16th Street. Travel 0.5 mi on County Rd 311 then turn right onto County Rd 331. Proceed west-bound on County Road 331 until the fork (about 0.8 mi), and continue straight onto County Rd 346. Turn right at the Silt River Preserve sign (0.5 mi down County Rd 346) and head to the parking lot.

From west of Silt (Rifle)

Head east-bound on I-70. Take Exit 94 to Garfield County/Airport Rd. Turn right onto County Rd 346 (heading south) and then take an immediate left to stay on County Rd 346 (now heading east). Continue around the curves and turn left at the Silt River Preserve sign (1.9 mi down County Rd 346). Proceed to the parking lot.

 Special notes

  • As much as we love pets, they typically make unsafe project participants. To ensure the safety of all pets and volunteers, pets are not permitted on RFOV projects.
  • The nature of work is suitable for volunteers 14 years old or older. We request one-on-one adult supervision of any minors attending this project.
