Date:  Saturday, September 22, 2018

Time:  8:30 am to 4:00 pm (dinner to follow)

Location:  Hanging Lake Trail near Glenwood Springs, CO

 THE RAMP TO HANGING LAKE FROM I-70 (exit 125) WILL ONLY BE OPEN FROM 8:00 AM TO 9:30 AM

 PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PARKING PASS FOR ENTRY (included when you sign up)

Access from the parking area back onto I-70 will not be affected.

 What to expect

We will be maintaining the very popular Hanging Lake Trail located along I-70 near Glenwood Springs. Volunteer work will consist of painting and sanding benches, installing rock steps, and closing trail braids.

Registration

Please check in at the RFOV table upon arrival. From there, we will split into work crews and head up the trail.

Meals

Please bring a sack lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. RFOV will provide light breakfast offerings, dinner, and drinks post project.

Project schedule

8:30 am     Registration

Noon          Lunch (sack lunch on the trail)

4:00 pm     End Work

4:15 pm     Dinner (provided)

What to wear

Long pants are recommended and sturdy, closed toe shoes are required. The best advice is to layer your clothing to be ready for cool mornings and evenings and hot weather during the day. Be prepared with a hat, sunscreen, and rain gear.

  • Water (at least 1/2 gallon)
  • Personal snacks
  • Lunch
  • Small backpack for personal items
  • Parking Pass

Directions 

There is parking at the trailhead, but we encourage volunteers to bike or carpool when possible.  The Forest Service will be turning away the general public at the Hanging Lake exit, so please bring your parking pass to gain entry.

 From west bound I-70 (west of Glenwood Springs)

Drive east on I-70 toward Denver past Glenwood Springs to the Hanging Lake Exit, Exit 125. Note: Wind through the barricades as you exit the interstate. The Hanging Lake Rest Area provides parking and access to the trail which is ¼ mile east along the bike path. Look for the RFOV registration area.

From up valley and Glenwood Springs

Follow Colorado HWY 82 into Glenwood Springs. Get in the left hand lane as you cross the bridge over the Colorado River and I-70 and follow signs towards I-70 East/Denver. Turn left onto the ramp to Denver/Eastbound I-70. Drive approximately 8.5 miles to the Hanging Lake exit, Exit 125. Note: Wind through the barricades as you exit the interstate. The Hanging Lake Rest Area provides parking and access to the trail which is ¼ mile east along the bike path. Look for the RFOV registration area.

 Special notes

  • As much as we love pets, they typically make unsafe project participants. To ensure the safety of all pets and volunteers, pets are not permitted on RFOV projects.
  • The nature of work is suitable for volunteers 12 years old or older. We request one-on-one adult supervision of any minors attending this project.
