Position Title: Development Director

Position Type: Part-Time

Location: Basalt, Colorado – RFOV office

Compensation: Hourly commensurate with experience

Reports To: RFOV Executive Director & Board of Directors

Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers (RFOV) is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote stewardship of our public lands by engaging the community in volunteer trail and restoration projects.

The Development Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for developing and implementing effective fundraising strategies to support the mission and programs of the organization.

Position Description:

RFOV Development Director works closely with the Executive Director, Board President, Fundraising Committee, and staff as the point person responsible for accomplishing, coordinating, overseeing, and participating in the fundraising for the contributed income goals of the operating and capital budgets set by the Executive Director and Board of Directors. 

The Development Director reports to the Executive Director. Compensation is currently part-time and hourly commensurate with experience and benefits including recreation and Simple IRA retirement benefits. The position’s compensation has the opportunity to grow with new sustained fundraising efforts based on results. Full time and salary increase will be written into the employee contract for the Development Director position upon results from fundraising efforts.

Development: Specific Responsibilities 

  • Submit requests and reports for rolling grants. 
  • Summer gathering with donors. 
  • September fundraising dinner/picnic. 
  • End of trail building season party and awards ceremony. 
  • In 2020, responsible for 25th RFOV Anniversary Event. 
  • Fiscal year-end drive – letters, calls, newsletters, fall donors. 
  • December fundraising (prospects, lapsed members). 
  • Membership Renewals March and October (email, calls, and letters). 
  • Track pledges and pursue pledge payments. 
  • Pursue campaign gifts – follow-up contacts, pursue foundation opportunities. 
  • Prospects – annually obtain new lists, cultivate prospects, invite new donors, follow-up major prospect leads 
  • Along with the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator periodically update/improve development pages on website. 
  • Support planning and execution of RFOV events – member dinners, small donor prospect gatherings, etc. 
  • Submit grant requests and reports for Tomorrow’s Voices (City, County, Thrift Shop, Rotary). 
  • Staff the fundraising committee. 
  • Provide development report at Board Meetings by addition in the Executive Director Report. 
  • Provide development content as needed for monthly email newsletters 
  • Update fundraising materials for Board Manuals. 
  • Participate in the monthly DEVO group meetings and join the Association of Fundraising Professionals. 
  • Participate regularly in professional development opportunities for new ideas and increased knowledge. 
  • Pursue corporate and in-kind support (new van, sponsorships etc.) 
  • Pursue corporate sponsorships for all sites and programs where goals are shared.
