Public Projects and Volunteer Opportunities

Our public projects are open to anyone and everyone looking to take care of our trails and wetlands!

Mitchell Creek
Trail Project

Glenwood Springs | Sat., May 18

Family-Friendly | 8:30am – 4pm

On this family-friendly project volunteers will be tasked with trimming dense brush and stabilizing stepping stones at creek crossings.

Mountain View Connector

Snowmass Village | Sat., June 1

National Trails Day | 8:30am – 4pm

Improve the connectivity of Snowmass Village trail system by building the last phase to connect the Mountain View and South Rim trails.

Skyline Ridge Trail Reroute

Snowmass Village | Tues. Evenings, June 11, 18, & 25

4pm – 8pm

Construct the reroute of the Skyline Ridge Trail in Sky Mountain Park to make the trail system more sustainable for trail users.

Lake Christine Fire Restoration

Basalt | Sat., June 15

Family-Friendly| 8:30am – 4pm

The Fire Restoration Project is part of the first steps to stabilizing the soils to prevent erosion and a takeover of invasive weeds and a restoration of the ecological integrity of the affected burn area from the 2018 fire.

Marble Basecamp

Marble | Fri., July 12 – Sun., July 14

Family-Friendly, Car Camping Optional

During this 2 night camping project, volunteers will be building short access trails to connect different facilities on the property, leveling the camping surfaces, and reducing wildfire risk by removing down trees.

Hay Park to Buzzard Basin

Carbondale | Fri., August 16 – Sun., August 18

“Backpacking Lite”, Fri. Evening to Sun. Afternoon

Volunteers will be camping at high elevation and working to relocate ½ mile of the multiple-use Buzzard Basin trail out of the Maroon Bells/Snowmass Wilderness Area.

Cathedral Lake

Aspen | Sat., September 7

8:30am – 4pm

This volunteer project will repair and improve heavily impacted and eroded sections of the first ½ mile past the trailhead, installing new drainage features, improving tread, and narrowing the trail in spots.

Hanging Lake

Glenwood Springs | Sat., September 21

8:30am – 4pm

Volunteer work will include installing stone steps, sanding and staining benches, clearing water bars, and restoring impacted habitat at this popular tourist destination.

Highlands Trail

Rifle | Sat., October 5

8:30am – 4pm

Volunteers will build a new singletrack hiking/biking trail in the heart of Rifle to expand the current trail system.
